Sussy Cazalet

Tristan Hoare Gallery is pleased to present Ascendance, Sussy Cazalet’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Specialising in the ancient language of textiles, Cazalet creates handwoven tapestries that sit at the intersection of tradition and contemporary abstraction. Using flat-loom weaving, natural fibres and organic, hand-mixed dyes, she constructs works that are simultaneously materially grounded and visually expansive. Although rooted in centuries-old processes, her practice departs from conventional tapestry through its bold patterning, saturated palettes and a confident, modern visual language.

With a background in design and architecture, Cazalet brings a methodical sensibility to her work. Each shape, proportion and rhythm is chosen with purpose, informed as much by mathematical harmony as by intuition. The resulting tension between control and spontaneity becomes central to the work, mirroring the fragile balance between logic and emotion, structure and instinct.
