Peter Schlesinger (b. 1948, Los Angeles) is an American ceramicist living and working between New York and his country house in Long Island.

Schlesinger has been moulding clay into large-scale ceramics for over 30 years, using bold, inventive forms, some reminiscent of stone, bronze, ironwork and other materials which hint at a more ancient tradition, while others are entirely original. Schlesinger crafts ceramics with personalities of their own, demonstrating his skill to craft vibrant, original sculptures with a living connection to the past.
They are recognisably by the same hand, but the range of visual language keeps the viewer guessing. His ceramics transmit a love of the sensuous nature of clay and the artist's interest in the history of pottery. Each work is an investigation into clay where no surface is the same and no form repeated. The variety of scale, texture, glazes and shapes is impressive.
