Tristan Hoare is delighted to present Frosorina, Paolo Colombo’s first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom. The title of the exhibition is a homage to a traditional folk song from Epirus, an ancient region of north-west Greece.

In Frosorina, Colombo’s paintings and photographs illustrate a lyrical series of moments. Created in sizes to be either peered into or poured over, they open across saturated washes of color, checkered squares, fine lines and lettering with a consistency of embroidered cloth. Poems written by the artist are presented in fragmentary form within detailed chequered watercolour surfaces, the medium chosen in part for its resistance to correction. Small photographs encourage us to reflect on the process of their creation, as well as the materials and vessels that contain such offerings: a bucket, a piece of watercolour paper.

Colombo was the first European artist to be shown at MoMA PS.1., New York, in 1977, and since then has been involved in exhibitions across Europe and the United States.
