Sydney Albertini: The Watermill Center: In Collaboration with Sisely Paris

25 June - 28 July 2026

Tristan Hoare Gallery is delighted to present a new body of work by Sydney Albertini, first unveiled last month at the historic Watermill Center in the Hamptons, USA, in collaboration with Sisley Paris.

The Botanical Series explores the expressive and symbolic potential of plant life through immersive compositions that hover between figuration and abstraction. The collaboration reflects a shared understanding of nature as a source of inspiration, creativity and renewal.

The series emerged from an immersive experience in Costa Rica, where Albertini felt entirely enveloped by the landscape and exposed to the extraordinary complexity of the natural world. Although the compositions are invented rather than directly observed, they draw upon the artist’s memories of walks and road trips. Layered patterns and interwoven forms evoke the density, rhythm and intricate beauty she finds within plant life.

Sydney Albertini (b. 1973, Paris) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amagansett, New York. Her practice spans painting, textile, printmaking and collage, and is guided by a sustained attentiveness to lived time. Kraft paper occupies a central position within her work, functioning not merely as a support but as an active material presence. Its warm, muted tones temper the vibrancy of Albertini’s palette, establishing a subtle equilibrium between positive and negative space, and between the figurative and the abstract. Long associated with utility and versatility, Kraft paper offers the artist a sense of liberation from more formal media, creating a space in which experimentation and spontaneity can unfold.
