‘Tina: Resting Warrior’ is a queen lying back on a leafy throne holding her sword after a long battle. The imagery is inspired from an usual pack of Renaissance tarot cards called the Sola Busca - this card the Queen of Swords - and the title references Tina Turner who overcame many life struggles to find happiness and success later in her life. They are part of Rafaela’s ongoing research into how ancient civilisations spread the worship of female goddess’ and how their meaning evolved over time as they would morph by stitching on symbols from local cultures. Rafaela calls the series of 5 pieces her warrior women, each a talisman for strength.
